Cybersecurity calculators for risk, ROI and SIEM sizing
Five free calculators from Obscure Networks, a ManageEngine partner in India. Use them to estimate risk, justify security spend, size log storage, test password strength and cost an outage. All figures update as you type.
Annual Loss Expectancy (ALE) calculator
Estimate how much a single security incident could cost and how much risk you carry each year. Use it to compare risks and decide where to spend first.
- Single loss expectancy (SLE)
- -
- Annual loss expectancy (ALE)
- -
- ALE per month
- -
SLE = asset value × exposure factor and ALE = SLE × ARO. An ARO of 0.5 means one incident every two years. Next step: a vulnerability management tool such as ManageEngine Vulnerability Manager Plus helps reduce the exposure behind these numbers.Return on security investment (ROSI) calculator
Check whether a security control pays for itself. Enter the yearly loss you expect without the control, how much of that risk it removes, and what it costs per year.
- Loss avoided per year
- -
- Net benefit per year
- -
- ROSI
- -
- Payback period
- -
ROSI = ((ALE × risk reduction) − cost) ÷ cost × 100. Payback in months is cost ÷ (ALE × risk reduction) × 12. The result is only as good as your ALE and reduction estimates, so use cautious inputs.SIEM log volume and storage calculator
Size log collection and storage before you deploy a SIEM such as ManageEngine Log360. Enter your device count, event rate, event size and retention period.
- Average events per second
- -
- Peak events per second
- -
- Events per day
- -
- Raw log volume
- -
- Stored volume after compression
- -
- Storage for retention period
- -
- With 20% headroom
- -
events/day = EPS × 86,400, raw GB/day = events/day × bytes ÷ 10⁹, stored = raw ÷ compression × days. Sizes use decimal units (1 TB = 1,000 GB). Real EPS and event size vary by source, so measure a sample before you buy. Regulations and audits can set minimum log retention, so check what applies to you.Password strength and cracking time calculator
See how many guesses a random password needs and how long an attacker would take under three common scenarios.
- Character pool size
- -
- Entropy
- -
- Possible combinations
- -
- Average time to crack
- -
- Time to try every combination
- -
- Strength rating
- -
entropy = length × log₂(pool size) and average time = combinations ÷ 2 ÷ guesses per second. This assumes every character is chosen at random. Passwords people invent (names, dates, patterns) are much weaker, and the guess rates are assumptions. Next step: multi-factor authentication, for example with ManageEngine ADSelfService Plus, protects accounts even when a password is guessed.Cyber incident downtime cost calculator
Put a rupee figure on an outage caused by an attack. It adds lost revenue, lost staff productivity and the one-off cost of response and recovery.
- Lost revenue
- -
- Lost productivity
- -
- Response and recovery
- -
- Total incident cost
- -
- Average cost per hour of downtime
- -
lost revenue = revenue/hour × share lost × hours, lost productivity = staff × cost/hour × hours × productivity lost, total = lost revenue + lost productivity + response cost. It leaves out fines, legal costs and reputation damage, so the real figure can be higher. Next step: scheduled patching with ManageEngine Endpoint Central closes many of the gaps attackers use.Want help turning these numbers into a plan?
